Messy Tuesday

Further to a comment on Woodstone Prairie’s recent post, I bring you a public service announcement about messy kitchens.

Kitchen Nov 3, 2008

That is the kitchen counter and penninsula as viewed from about where my computer is at the opposite end of the room. Let’s take a closer look at that area around the sink, shall we.

That’s clean stuff in the drainer, and dirty stuff on the other side of the sink. The water bottle is waiting to go in the dishwasher (beneath that bit of counter) and who knows why that watering can is there. The only houseplant we have is in the green pot on the windowsill above the sink and I think it is dead. Beside the dirty dishes (some of which will probably also end up in the dishwasher but they often hang out on the counter in disarray for a while before anything happens) under a tea towel are two loaves of bread waiting to go into the oven. You can’t see it but the bowl the bread dough was mixed in is in the sink, filled with water (so the bits of dough might actually come off) and the little sink has a bunch of coffee grounds in it that need to be dumped in the compost.

You can’t see the floor but it needs sweeping so badly that even my mother-out-law might be tempted to do it (and she has much lower standards than I do, believe it or not). That means visible stuff on the floor, folks.

I hope you will still be my friends and come over for tea (which is not a health hazard, honest). But you can see why the purported messiness in the background of Woodstone’s Jack O’Lantern photograph would have totally passed me by if she hadn’t mentioned it.

Looks like I’d be right at home. :)

Do you also have a section of counter that never seems to be clear?

Oh, I wouldn’t be afraid to come over for tea at all! Ours is often quite similar.

Well, we have visible particles on the floor ALL the time. Even after a sweeping it only takes a few minutes to get back to norm ;-) .

    bah, that’s nothing!

    So, when’s the tea party?

Hmpf! I could top that any day of the week. :-)

Can I bring baking powder biscuits?!

Dirty floors never scare me :)

It looks like mine! Thanks for keeping it real. It really is a public service announcement to let people know that we all live real lives, not magazine pictures.
